The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) has published six draft topics for its upcoming Calls 14 and 15, expected to launch in early 2027. Several topics are particularly relevant to personalised medicine, addressing predictive health technologies, patient-centred care, advanced therapies and clinical evidence generation.
The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI), a European public-private partnership for health research and innovation, published the draft topic texts on 15 October 2026. The early publication provides potential applicants with additional time to explore the proposed research areas, identify partners and prepare collaborative project proposals.
New Opportunities Relevant to Personalised Medicine
IHI Call 14 will follow a single-stage application procedure and is expected to cover four topics:
- Validation of human-relevant novel approaches to accelerate the discovery and pre-clinical development of innovative medicinal products and health technologies
- Validated, predictive approaches for clinical development of innovative personalised health technologies
- Transforming healthcare delivery through integrated, scalable and patient-centred care systems
- Advanced therapy medicinal products: Supporting manufacturing and clinical centre readiness in Europe
Of particular relevance to the personalised medicine community are the topics addressing predictive technologies for clinical development, including AI-enabled approaches, biomarkers and patient stratification, as well as the integration of innovative technologies into patient-centred healthcare pathways.
The topic on advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) also complements ongoing European efforts to advance cell and gene therapies, including the recently pre-announced EP PerMed Joint Transnational Call 2027 (CGT4PM2027).
IHI Call 15 will follow a two-stage application procedure and is expected to address two additional topics:
- A common European approach to equitable patient access to compassionate use
- From early endpoints to long-term outcomes: Healthcare decision-making on the use of surrogate evidence for timely patient access
These topics address important challenges in improving access to innovative treatments and strengthening the evidence base for healthcare decision-making.
Preparing for the calls
Both calls are expected to launch in early 2027. The published topics are currently under consultation and may change before their final approval by the IHI Governing Board.
Interested stakeholders are encouraged to review the draft topic descriptions and begin identifying potential consortium partners. IHI will organise information sessions around the official call launch to explain the topics, application requirements and procedures.
