Networking Projects

Funded under ERA PerMed JTC2018, JTC2020 and EP PerMed JTC2024

The proposed networking event aims to bring together a transnational and interdisciplinary community to address key translational challenges in Personalised Medicine, with a specific focus on the role of subject specific Digital Twins (DTs) in advancing personalised radiotherapy. Despite promising advances, the integration of DTs into clinical workflows remains limited due to fragmented data sources and related gaps in clinical validation, methodological silos and regulatory barriers.

This event will gather researchers from previously funded ERA/EP PerMed projects (RADprecise, Hi-ROC, PerPlanRT), which have collectively advanced biomarker discovery, radiotherapy toxicity prediction, and in-silico modeling for treatment personalisation. The event will also gather researchers and opinion leaders from the broader European Virtual Human Twin community. The event will serve as a platform to consolidate lessons learned, harmonise methodological approaches, and define future directions for translational research on DTs in oncology.

The initiative will engage diverse stakeholders: academic and clinical researchers, data scientists, regulatory bodies, and patient advocacy organisations (PAOs). PAOs will play a key role in aligning scientific goals with patients’ needs, supporting ethical and equitable research translation.

The event’s impact will be threefold:

  1. strengthening the collaboration across European research communities working on personalised radiotherapy;
  2. building a shared roadmap for DT implementation in oncology;
  3. promoting responsible innovation by involving end-users and ensuring clinical and societal relevance. Ultimately, the event will accelerate the integration of personalised medicine (PM) research outcomes into everyday cancer care.
