The implementation of personalised medicine is shaped by strategies that define political priorities and legal frameworks that regulate the use of data and technologies. It is also influenced by international initiatives that support cooperation between countries. To make these different sources more accessible, EP PerMed has created three curated collections within the Personalised Medicine Resources section of our website.

National and Regional Strategies Related to Personalised Medicine

This new overview of national and regional strategies presents strategies, programmes and policy documents published by national and regional authorities.

The collection illustrates how countries and regions are setting priorities and developing the infrastructures and governance arrangements needed for personalised medicine. The documents cover areas including genomic medicine, digital health and health data, personalised cancer care, clinical implementation, regional innovation ecosystems and investment programmes. Short summaries explain the scope of each document and its relevance to personalised medicine.

Laws, Acts and Other Legal Instruments Related to Personalised Medicine

The overview of legal instruments brings together laws, regulations, statutory programmes and other legal sources that influence the implementation of personalised medicine.

The instruments address topics such as genetic testing, genomic medicine, biobanks, the primary and secondary use of health data, patient rights, research governance, ethical safeguards, reimbursement and the establishment of implementation infrastructures. The collection demonstrates how legal frameworks can enable innovation while establishing the safeguards required for the responsible implementation of personalised medicine.

Transnational Strategies and Policy Papers Related to Personalised Medicine

The third collection presents transnational strategies and policy papers developed by European and international initiatives.

It includes strategies, roadmaps, declarations, research and innovation agendas and policy papers addressing topics such as personalised prevention, genomic and health-data infrastructures, rare diseases, cross-border collaboration, ethical and legal issues and health-system transformation.

These documents provide a wider context for national and regional activities by identifying shared priorities, common implementation challenges and opportunities for cooperation and alignment across countries.

Complementing Existing EP PerMed Mapping Resources

The three new policy-focused collections complement two existing EP PerMed mapping resources on Research Infrastructures Involved in Personalised Medicine and Projects and Initiatives on Personalised Medicine. Together, the five resources offer complementary insights into the strategies, legal frameworks, initiatives and infrastructures shaping the personalised medicine landscape.

The collections are designed as living resources and will be updated as further relevant documents and activities are identified. Members of the personalised medicine community are invited to inform EP PerMed about missing strategies, policy papers or legal instruments that should be considered for inclusion by contacting eppermed@dlr.de.
