To enhance the visibility and impact of research in personalised medicine, EP PerMed organises a video competition for young researchers involved in projects funded under ERA PerMed or EP PerMed.

The EP PerMed Video Competition provides a platform for young researchers involved in ERA PerMed and EP PerMed funded projects to showcase their research work in personalised medicine through short, creative and engaging videos. This initiative aims to enhance the visibility of cutting-edge research, strengthen scientific communication skills, and foster collaboration within the research consortia. By presenting their projects in an accessible format, participants contribute to increasing outreach and awareness of personalised medicine research and its possible impact on healthcare.
Winner of the JTC2022 Video Competition
The winner of the JTC2022 video competition is the team of young researchers of the DAWN-AF consortium with the video ‘Digital Twins to Treat Atrial Fibrillation’. As part of the award, Tomás Banduc from the Millennium Institute for Intelligent Healthcare Engineering (iHEALTH, Chile), representative of the team, will attend the first EP PerMed Implementation School in Zaragoza (Spain), with costs covered by EP PerMed. The winning video will also be presented and formally awarded during the JTC2022 Midterm Seminar, which will take place in Paris, France, on February 3–4, 2026.
The DAWN-AF project develops digital cardiac twins – virtual replicas of patients’ hearts – to design patient-specific ablation strategies for atrial fibrillation. By combining advanced imaging, AI-based modelling, and clinical data, the project aims to improve treatment precision, shorten recovery time, and make personalised therapies more accessible for patients worldwide.

Winner of the JTC2021 Video Competition
Through the “The Story Behind Our Personalised Medicine Research Project” initiative, EP PerMed encourages young researchers from ERA PerMed and EP PerMed funded projects to communicate their work in personalised medicine in a creative and accessible way. The competition serves as a platform to highlight the role of early-career researchers and foster greater visibility and collaboration across consortia.
The award for the JTC2021 video competition was presented at the JTC2021 Midterm Symposium to Lena Lorenzer, a Junior Researcher at the Medical University of Graz, Austria, who represented the team of young researchers from the PRECARE-ML consortium who worked together on producing the video.
PRECARE-ML is an international project that aims to improve the prediction of cardiovascular events using advanced machine learning techniques. Lena joined the project in June 2024 and is now preparing to pursue a PhD focused on the integration of AI-driven models into clinical decision-making.

Winner of the JTC2020 Video Competition
As part of the initiative “The Story Behind Our Personalised Medicine Research Project”, EP PerMed invited young researchers from ERA PerMed funded projects to creatively present their work through short, accessible videos. The competition aims to promote science communication, collaboration, and the visibility of personalised medicine research.
The award for the JTC2020 video competition was presented at the EP PerMed Conference on Personalised Medicine Research 2025 to Eirini Tsirvouli from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, representing the team of young researchers from the ONCOLOGICS consortium who worked collaboratively on producing the video.
Tsirvouli and her colleagues sought to move beyond the traditional ‘one size fits all’ approach to cancer treatment. Their project focused on developing a computational modelling and functional validation platform tailored to the individual genotypic and phenotypic characteristics of each tumour. This platform aims to support clinical decision-making for personalised colorectal cancer therapy, contributing to more effective and targeted treatment strategies.
