The potential of the different European Partnerships and infrastructures was a crucial topic during the captivating two-day conference ‘The convergence of technologies enabling R&I for the healthcare of the future’ on 28 and 29 May 2024 in Brussels.
Converging technologies, such as bio-, and nanotechnologies, engineering, digitalisation and big data have transformational power to drive research and innovation towards healthcare of the future, which were compelling topic of prominent academics and policy makers at the Belgium presidency conference.
In line with presentations from selected health-related European partnerships, EP PerMed partner Malin Eklund (VINNOVA, Sweden) gave an overview of the European Partnership for Personalised Medicine and focused on the actions which aim to support the rapid uptake of personalised medicine approaches as innovations in the health care systems.
The following slot provided an opportunity to delve deeper into the critical role of European Partnerships in Research & Innovation in driving innovation and transformation in healthcare. EP PerMed coordinator Wolfgang Ballensiefen (DLR, Germany) discussed with the coordinators of the other health-related European Partnerships linkages, prospects for collaboration, feedback loops, joint strategies and what is needed to maximise the impact of all projects.
This Belgian presidency conference was coordinated by the Department for Economy, Science and Innovation of the Flemish government, in collaboration with the Research Department of the Public Service of Wallonia, the Department for Care of the Flemish government and Sciensano.
